Sergei Viktorovich Popov (Russian: Сергей Викторович Попов; born 1971) is a Russian businessman and banker. He is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of MDM Bank.

Biography

After studying at the Ural Polytechnic Institute with a specialization in Industrial Heat Power Engineering in 1993, Popov became a partner in the Ural-Siberian Commercial and Industrial Company.

Together with Andrei Melnichenko, he co-founded MDM Business Concern in 1996. From 1997-1999 he was a partner and business manager of the company, and in 2000 he became a founding member of MDM Industrial Group.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of RAO UES of Russia, JSC Pipe Metallurgical Company, JSC Evrokhim, MDM Industrial Group, and many other companies. Currently he is a member of the Board of Directors of Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK).

Popov owns 77 per cent of the shares of MDM Bank, and slightly less than 50 per cent of SUEK.

According to Forbes magazine, Popov's personal fortune is estimated at $5 billion (154th place in the ranking of billionaires) as of March 10, 2010.[1]
